Fairer prize money. A stronger voice.
A sustainable future for racehorse ownership.
The Owners Keep Racing Alive.
Welcome to the Independent Owners Group or The IOG, where we stand united to demand fair treatment for the people who form the backbone of British horse racing.
It’s owners.
Behind the scenes of British horse racing, there’s an uncomfortable truth, that owners, the very people funding the sport, are getting the rawest deal. Without them, there are no horses, no races, no industry.
Yet, horse racing as an industry offers paltry financial incentives for owner investment in favour of everyone else. Instead reliance is placed on the willingness of owners to fund horse racing solely as a sport.
Continuing to ignore the need for a fairer deal for owners is madness.

Owning a racehorse in Britain is, financially speaking, a disaster.
Prize money in Britain is among the lowest of all major racing nations, forcing many to move their horses overseas or exit the sport entirely.
Without owners, there is no racing, and It’s time for change.
The Return On Investment Is Among The Worst In The World.
Compared to other racing nations, British owners are expected to bankroll the sport with little to no reward.
Horse racing in Britain is in crisis, and the number one issue is prize money. Despite owners investing millions into the sport, returns are dismal.

Fighting for a Fairer Future
Our Mission
Our mission is clear.
The Independent Owners Group was founded to put those who bankroll the sport, back at the centre of the conversation.
To force a fairer distribution of prize money so owners aren’t left footing the bill, to give them a legitimate voice in industry decisions, expose the financial inequalities that have been ignored for too long, and push for radical reform to prevent Britain from falling behind its racing rivals.
We’re not here to sit quietly in meetings and hope for small concessions. The IOG is taking direct action. We are challenging the current decision makers to ensure owners get a fairer share of revenue.
We are engaging with trainers, breeders, and industry insiders to build a united front. We are laying bare the financial reality through data-driven reports and exposés.
And we are demanding reforms that align with international standards to prevent Britain’s racing industry from falling into decline.
